A Kayaking Trip on a Calm Lake

Last summer, my family rented kayaks and spent a day exploring a quiet lake in a national park, and it was a peaceful escape from city chaos. I shared a kayak with my little sister, and we paddled slowly along the shore, where tall trees leaned over the water and dragonflies darted above the surface. We saw a family of ducks with fluffy ducklings, and a heron that stood motionless in the shallows before flying away with a fish in its beak. Midday, we anchored near a small island and had a picnic of sandwiches and fruit, listening to the sound of water lapping against the kayaks. On the way back, I tried paddling alone for a while, feeling the lake’s calm current carry me gently. This trip taught me to slow down and appreciate nature’s quiet beauty, and I now ask to go kayaking every time we visit the park.
